Happy Thanksgiving Drumbo and beautiful family.

Pilgrim Pumkin Pie:

Ingredients

2 Cups..................Pumpkin
1 ¼ Cups................Cream
2.......................Eggs
2/3 Cup.................Maple Syrup
2/3 Cup.................Honey
1 Tbsp..................Molasses
1 Tsp...................Vanilla
1 oz....................Rum
1 Tsp...................Cinnamon
½ Tsp...................Ginger
½ Tsp...................Nutmeg
¼ Tsp...................All Spice
¼ Tsp...................Cloves
¼ Tsp...................Mace
½ Tsp...................Salt

Mix all ingredients well
Fill pie shell* & Bake @ 450 for 10 min.
Reduce heat to 350 and bake 40/50 min.

*Make pie shell with lard.

Before our mom started getting on in years, Thanksgiving was an occasion for us kids to have some mischief.

Among the pranks we pulled off in the past, each separate years:

• Every half hour or so move the clocks forward 10 minutes. "This turkey is just not cooking! It's getting late!"
• We planted a remote control flatulence sound effect device in the bird's cavity. As she started to carve the turkey started making 'noises'.
• Inserted a cooked game hen into the bird's cavity and then claimed the poor thing was expecting.
• Added a slight tint of purple added to the mashed potatoes that 'no one could see' except her.
• Rigging a remote to trigger her doorbell to constantly ring while we were trying to eat.
• If she went into the kitchen for anything a few of us would trade seats.

At other times of the year we had other elaborate hoaxes and pranks but those days are long gone. She was kind of sad when we stopped...

WHAT I MISS MOST FROM PAST THANKSGIVINGS:

Made from scratch pies with made from scratch crusts and made from scratch meringue.

I guess I remember the first time that I got to have one of the drumsticks... and wondering what the fuss was all about. I went back to white meat the following year.
